ClassActions.com.au is operated by Class Actions Australia (ABN 77 672 009 764). In this notice, we, us and our refers to Class Actions Australia and its associated entities.
What personal information we collect
When you use ClassActions.com.au, we may collect personal information including:
- your name, email address and phone number;
- your suburb, state or postcode;
- information you provide about a matter, claim, enquiry, or your eligibility for a class action;
- information about your circumstances that may be relevant to a matter you are interested in, which may include sensitive information such as health information;
- your device information, IP address (stored as a one-way hash) and browsing behaviour through cookies and analytics tools; and
- any other information you choose to provide to us.
Why we collect it
We collect your personal information for the following purposes:
- to operate ClassActions.com.au and the Australian Class Action Registry;
- to register your interest in matters, investigations, class actions or related opportunities;
- to assess your eligibility for a matter or service;
- to communicate with you about matters you follow or are registered for;
- to facilitate connections between claimants and law firms, where you authorise this;
- to improve our platform, services and user experience;
- to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations; and
- for analytics, security and fraud prevention.
How we collect it
We collect personal information:
- directly from you, when you fill in forms, register interest, submit questionnaires, or communicate with us through the platform;
- automatically, through cookies, analytics tools and similar technologies when you visit the site; and
- from third parties, where you have authorised the disclosure or where permitted by law.
What happens if we don't collect it
If you choose not to provide certain personal information, we may not be able to:
- register your interest in a matter;
- assess your eligibility;
- communicate with you about relevant matters or opportunities; or
- provide certain platform features or services to you.
Who we may disclose it to
We may disclose your personal information to:
- our employees, contractors and associated entities;
- law firms participating on the platform, where you authorise the disclosure or where reasonably necessary for a matter you have chosen to engage with;
- IT, cloud, hosting, communications and analytics service providers;
- professional advisers, including lawyers and accountants;
- courts, regulators and government agencies where required or authorised by law; and
- any other parties with your consent or as required by law.
We aim to minimise unnecessary disclosure of your direct contact details. Where communication is needed, it may occur through the platform, controlled messaging systems, or AI-assisted tools.
Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers may store, process or access personal information outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure the overseas recipients handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Sensitive information
Where we collect sensitive information (such as health information relevant to a claim), we do so only where:
- you have consented;
- it is reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it is collected; or
- collection is required or authorised by law.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- request access to the personal information we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate, out-of-date or incomplete information;
- opt out of non-essential communications;
- make a complaint about how we handle your personal information.
